6 Days Moroccan Wildlife Photography Tour

Your Moroccan 6 Days Moroccan Wildlife Photography Tour begins upon arrival in Marrakech, a city alive with culture and color. From there, you head out on a scenic 5-hour drive through the High Atlas Mountains, watching the landscapes shift from urban bustle to quiet valleys and red rock canyons.

Upon arrival in Boumalne Dades, known for its rugged terrain and proximity to excellent birding sites, you will have time to relax before heading out in the late afternoon to visit the Valley of Birds (Birds Valley). This stunning desert zone is home to species such as the Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Crowned Sandgrouse, Cream-colored Courser. As the sun begins to set, the golden light creates superb conditions for wildlife photography.

After breakfast, you continue your journey from the high desert landscapes toward the deep Sahara. The drive to Merzouga, approximately 5–6 hours, reveals spectacular scenery including rocky plains, hidden oases, and towering sand dunes rising in the distance.

We will pass by a Pharaoh eagle owl. Along the route keep an eye out for soaring raptors, sunbathing reptiles, and even desert foxes crossing the road. Upon arrival at your desert lodge, you will have time to rest before enjoying a short sunset walk into the dunes. The soft evening light and shifting sands provide dramatic photography opportunities. At dawn, you set out in a 4x4 vehicle to explore the remote desert regions surrounding Merzouga. Early morning offers excellent opportunities to observe and photograph desert birdlife, including sandgrouse, the African Desert Warbler, and possibly the elusive Egyptian Nightjar. With some luck, you may also spot the majestic African Houbara Bustard.

Following lunch and a short rest, the afternoon is dedicated to your first Fennec Fox tracking session, guided by experienced local trackers. These small and shy foxes are true symbols of the Sahara. With patience and favorable conditions, you may witness them emerging from their burrows at dusk, offering unforgettable wildlife photography moments.

After breakfast, you embark on another desert excursion focused on the Sahara’s fascinating reptiles. Accompanied by local guides, you will search for species such as the Horned Viper (Vipera cerastes), Cerastes cerastes, and the Desert Monitor, all uniquely adapted to survive the extreme desert environment.

Later, after lunch and some relaxation time, you head back into the dunes for a second Fennec Fox tracking session, increasing your chances of capturing sharp and memorable images during the golden hour.

Following dinner at the lodge, prepare for a nighttime photography experience focused on nocturnal desert wildlife, including jerboas, Cheeseman’s Gerbil, and hedgehogs. Under the star-filled Saharan sky, this session offers truly unique photographic opportunities.

Today begins early, before sunrise, as you ride ATVs into the dunes for a special morning Fennec Fox photography session. The experience includes approximately two hours of guided photography, with an additional optional two-hour session available for those who wish to continue shooting.

The remainder of the day is free for relaxation at the hotel and preparation for the evening outing. After lunch and downtime, you head out once more for another sunset Fennec Fox tracking session, maximizing your opportunities to photograph these elusive desert animals in perfect golden light conditions. Your final day begins before dawn with a special sunrise ATV or walking session through the dunes. The warm morning light transforms the Sahara into a glowing canvas, creating ideal conditions for landscape and wildlife photography.

After breakfast at the lodge, you pack up and begin your journey toward Errachidia Airport, traveling once again through Morocco’s beautiful desert scenery.
